I found the part # you mentioned for the shims, the manual calls them
washers.  I'm assuming that Yam never made specific shims for the purpose of
adjusting side play on the 93 (oops), and what you are suggesting will make
the rear swingarm assembly fit better than new with less play.

I can't see a way for me to measure the side play right now with the thrust
covers in place (I need to buy a 27mm socket today to undo the pivot bolt)
and assume that once I have it apart it will be self explanatory and I can
remove the thrust covers and then re-assemble and measure the play.  BTW -
where did the 0.010" dimension come from?

You mean take the total play subtract 0.010" and then divide by 2 right?
