Looking for some input, please, before heading back to the shop...

Just had the entire clutch assembly replaced (first time) - started slipping
at 80+ mph, figured it was about time.

Since I can get some parts at dealer cost -- and as recommended by a few
mechanic friends -- I got a set of Barnett clutch plates. So I go down to
my Yamaha mechanic, new clutch plates in hand, and he proceeds to tell me
that Barnett's wet clutches will just slip, and I'll have problems. So,
considering he's been good to me so far, and he works on Yams all day and
would know better than I, I go w/ his recommendation for OEM clutch plates.
Besides, the originals had lasted me 176,000 miles, so who am I to argue?

I get the bike back and the first thing I notice is a hesitation in 1st &
2nd gears... esp in 2nd at around 30-40mph - feels like she's slipping -
can't grab on. Very noticeable, and doesn't seem to improve by letting up
or increasing the throttle.

Also done in this time frame: new tires, new chain & sprockets, engine
tune - so it doesn't seem to be the engine, definitley seems to be the
drive, yet the chain is properly tensioned, etc. Again, only does this in
the first two gears.

Now to the question... is it possible that a brand new clutch will slip like
this (I'm told there's no adjusting it)? What else could possible cause
this?

I'm very annoyed.

Thanks for any input,

-Thomas
