Fellow Riders,

An article in October's 2001 Motor Cyclist magazine (page 111) has attempted to give
advise to those stopped for M.V. violations...
Not bad, but I disagree with one action. When stopped, turn the bike off, put the
kick-stand down and slowly get off the bike. STAY NEAR the machine and face the
officer. The article advises you to immediately step away from the bike. If you follow
this advise, the officer may think you're going to beat feet... Thieves run and they
do it immediately, either on the bike or on foot.
The reason we ask you to stay near the bike, is for your own safety. When stopped,
most riders have one thing on their mind, the ticket. Depending upon where you're
stopped, Interstate Hwy or residential street, traffic will continue to flow. Your
focus is now on the officer and you may not be aware of anything else. When on the
shoulder of the road, one step towards the roadway may be your last. Police Officers
have been trained to monitor traffic while on stops and still there are fatalities...
I have seen what a Tractor Trailer can do to a human body...
Stay Safe,
"CruzinTrooper"
