This may be of interest for you Bob J.
I talked to the R&D guy at Yamaha, he said that maybe the better bet to get
power out of the GTS would be to use the Wiseco 1040 kit on the stock GTS
motor, the throttlebodies are 46mm so they should handle it he said. Then
possibly put the FZR or YZF cam in the GTS for for topend grunt.
Never thought of that, however, he admired the work with retrofitting the
FZR motor in the bike, said it was a real nice job. Oh, to get more lowend
power he wanted to put the stock airbox on but that wouldn't happen since
the intakes are larger on the FZR carbs than the throttlebodies on the GTS.
It makes for a better intake charge since the velocity of the air comes up a
bit by swirling in the airbox. He didn't like the K&Ns sitting behind the
radiators in the open. I don't think it'll make a HUGE difference, but I
might make a little 'shield' to funnel the warm air out to the sides, if I
can get it out to hit my knees I can ride the bike during the winter without
freezing my ba..coj..my knees off. :)
