Actually, I believe it could be your ass no matter who is right--losing a chain can be inconvenient or dangerous. I think the slack dimension takes into consideration you are adjusting loose to allow for the tightening as the swing arm passes through it's arc. (it will get loose again as the suspension bottoms out) The maximum tension is the same no matter the load so do not adjust looser for two up. FL Kev
