But I do want to comment on the meds suggested so far. (I'm not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV, BUT) in early January I fell on my shoulder during our lone surprise ice storm here in the DC area, whilst walking the dog. Since it was still painful 2 weeks after the fact, I took it to my orthopedist who promptly ordered me to get an MRI. I actually fell asleep in the machine, but that's another story. Bottom line: I have a torn rotator cuff, though I suspect that the fall was simply the straw that broke the camel's back. Anyway I'll be having rotator repair surgery in early April. My doc put me on 50 mg of Vioxx a day--apparently the most one can take daily. It has done wonders covering up the pain. I didn't really realize just how well it was doing until a few days ago, when I was late taking it, and in a lot of pain because I was late. I understand that Naproxin is no longer recommended because of the damage it can do to your stomach's lining. Ibuprofen works for some, but I'd say stick with the Vioxx--be forewarned -- it is very expensive at least here in the DC area. Regards, Henry S.
