With out oil analysis it is hard to determine the cause. In most cases where a mechanically sound engine in question it is a viscosity issue. I know that oil ring condition, and valve guide seal condition are a bigger factor as far as oil burning is concern, but are some oils less likely to burn due one or more properties being different? The reason I'm asking is that some GTS1000 owners say that their consumption has dropped dramatically after putting Series 2000 20W-50 in their GTS's. A few fellow GTS1000 owners have claimed significantly lower oil consumption when using Amsoil Series 2000 20W-50, so I'm considering using it. Yamaha specs an odd viscosity of 20W40 (Yamalube) in the manual. Since most oil makers don't make a 20W40, many GTS owners are using 10W-40. You guys don't make a Series 2000 10W-40 or 20W-40. Is it OK to use the Series 2000 20W-50 in the GTS1000? My riding includes a lot of sustained 75+ mph interstate riding in the Baltimore/DC area. Summer highs are 90 to 100 degrees. Thanks.
