I had more conversations with Ed. See below. I ordered some of the Series
2000 oil. I'm dubious, but willing to take a chance.

Walt,

You are right. there could be many factors that add up to consumption. With
out oil analysis it is hard to determine the cause. In most cases where a
mechanically sound engine in question it is a viscosity issue.

Thanks,

Ed,

What about the oil burning issue with the many of the GTS1000's. Is there
some property of oil is to some some extent a determinant of that (flash
point, volatility, viscosity)? I know that oil ring condition, and valve
guide seal condition are a bigger factor as far as oil burning is concern,
but are some oils less likely to burn due one or more properties being
different? The reason I'm asking is that some GTS1000 owners say that their
consumption has dropped dramatically after putting Series 2000 20W-50 in
their GTS's. Thanks.

- Walt

Walt,

Absolutely. Manufacturers only make general recommendations as to viscosity
ratings. Series 2000 20W50 is an excellent choice for your bike.
