While I agree that specific accusations would have been worse, I think
that broad, general accusations of ignorance/fearmongering are
nonetheless harmful.

I don't think that emotions stood in the way of the process, and even if
they did, you can't ask people to sidestep their own emotions about
something that directly affects them. In my opinion, the discussion was
very civil and respectful, so I don't think emotions were a
(significant) negative factor in the process.
Furthermore, it seems somewhat bass-ackwards to see people expressing
urgency in resolving an issue and to respond by delaying any possible
resolution

In my opinion it tries to address the root cause of *many* problems: a
plethora of societal, cultural, legal, technical, and ethical problems.
I don't think these problems could be effectively addressed separately.
In any case, what would need to happen for you to accept or even support
a future GCD008+1?
I think the best course forward would be to try and secure personal
committments from all committers to a temporary moratorium on merging
LLM-generated contributions until a GCD008+1 is resolved, and to submit
the current draft of GCD008 as a new GCD as soon as possible. I would
personally hope that there is significantly less discussion this time,
as I feel like most (if not all) opinions have already been repeatedly
stated.
