Yeah; I got that.  For my setting, the timelag would have to be
measured in milliseconds at most; I just don't see the bubble being
able to survive much longer than that without the drive.  There may be
a theoretical offset; but in practice, you would be able to ignore it.

In effect, you're proposing that the warp field isn't a drive system
at all; it's a shipwide inertial damper: power it up, and the ship
maneuvers as if its mass was only a fraction of what it actually is.
At a 10:1 ratio, the ship would end up accelerating at 10G while the
hull (and the crew inside) would only experience 1G of acceleration.
Furthermore, 90% of the resulting velocity would be pseudo-velocity,
existing only for as long as the field is active.

This isn't what I'm looking for at the moment; but it's a great idea
that I'm likely to try out sometime later.
