This is an interesting idea. After all, many tanks are designed where the 
engine can be popped out and replaced with a new one in minutes; the tank then 
drives off with the new engine and the mechanic are free to work on the old 
engine.

My main concern is that an arm or leg that is iasy to pop on or off might be 
easier to disable in combat or from a collision, that it's not as secure as an 
"orgabic" part of the mecha.
