Hello everybody, as we all know, Traveller isn't exactly hard science fiction, but it does have some relation to science and numbers.
Say I want a suit of powered armor to operate in gas giants. The original design was for the Scout Service, even if surplus suits are used by industrial crews. * Jupiter has a surface gravity of 2.6 G. How much of a reserve should the contragrav have? 51 Pegasi has roughly 4 G. (Extra CG is easier to fit in than extra thrusters, because of the volume constraints.) * With DR 1,000, a suit would be good for water up to 12,120 yds (VXi 30). According to Under Pressure, p. 48, that means 365 atmospheres. Does anybody know how to calculate 'depth' in a gas giant?
