that would probably work, but it would turn the craft into a
kind of sailplane, which uses CG to gain altitude, and wings

That doesn't match the look-and-feel I was aiming for, a
cross between Jabba's barge and Space:1899. The characters
come from a gleaming high-tech world, and the new vehicles
should drive the differences in the Traveller Imperium home.


The wings/sails could propably be mounted pointing upwards and downwards (giving an overall similiar siluette to a plane, that has done the first 90 degrees of a roll). That would give a similiar look.

Granted a sailplane would be a more efficient use of the same technologies, and other then tournament rules or fashion, i have no idea why you would not use one instead.
