Hello Mike,

I don't think interplanetary courses can be plotted with 
handheld instruments, but the instruments could be used 
to do a very rough check, and to detect gross computer
malfunctions.

If the computer says the angle is 123.45678 degrees and 
the human says 123.49 degrees, the computer is probably 
right. If the computer says 123.45678 degrees and the 
human says 303.44 degrees, look for a programming error.

Does that apply to cars or to ships? I though a modern
ship's engines are swim-by-wire from the bridge, unless
somebody in the engine room punches an override.
