I need help designing an adventure again.
The adventure so far needs 2 groups/conspiracies of roman nobles, one with
a subgroup. I'll call them I (subgroup Ia) and II for the time being.
Group I has a special pasttime, they secretly perform in a villa close to
but outside Rome. A noble gets real gladiator equipment, and then fights
an untrained slave who gets blunt weapons. Making private gladiator games
is illegal, as only the emperor is allowed to sponsor games (an educated
guess of mine, propably not completly historically correct, but true in my
campain), but if caught they would argue, that all they do is combat
training, but nevertheless they try to keep it under wraps. They
especially like slaves, who are look alikes of real gladiators.
The leadership of group I wants to make joint operations with group II and
as part of greasing the wheels, an emissary of group II will take part
in the special combat training.
Group Ia wants to sabotage the cooperation with group II. If the emissary
would die or at least get badly hurt in the fight, that would do it. The
pc-gladiator Tribunus does have a score to settle with the emissary, so
the plan is to smuggle Tribunus in as his own look alike give him a
sword, that looks more blunt then it actually is and have him
fight and kill the emissary.
An expendable middleman will aproach Tribunus.
Now Tribunus will want to have a way out. Ia will have to look at least
supportive of that. I don't have yet much better ideas then "someone will
open the cell door" or "release all the slaves to create confusion". If
the plan of Ia is to betray Tribunus, there will have to be an attempt to
kill him, before he talks. If this is the case, i'd like some hints, that
this is going to happen and some idea for a emergency deus ex machina
intervention, should the players miss it.
Then i need ideas how to involve the other pcs, who are all well known,
and with one exception also gladiators. Smuggling them in disguised as
servants, does not really sound like a good plan, because especially the
people there are bound to recognize them. Smuggling more moch doubles in,
does not seem to be helpfull.
The best i have come up sofar, is that they attend a party in a nearby
villa, and Tribunus then flees there, changes his identity from double, to
real Tribunus. Propably some of them can sneek to the combat training
villa, to help Tribunus flee.
Basically, what i need most, is plans how Tribunus is going to flee after
the deed, both what Ia suggests and what i can try to steer the pcs to
actually implement.
Thanks in advance.
