So, is the idea to land the sky carrier on the sea carrier? That would
have to be a really big ship. I'm reminded of the dragon carrier
question we had some months ago.
Or the sky carrier can float, like the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier. Give
it a boat hull and assume that the fans can be mounted high enough to
stay clear of the water. Then it can do a traditional replenishment
at sea with fuel hoses and ammo pallets. The problem with this is on
the meta-design-level. I'm not just doing the Helicarrier from the
Avengers with the serial number filed off, so I don't want it to swim.
Eihter way could work, though in the first case you need a dedicated ship,
which makes the setup more expensive and the ship less expendable.
The downsides are, that the carrier has to leave the place of operations
occasionally, that the supplyship might become a weak link in the carrier
operation.
If I have a nearby ocean, why not send a sea carrier to start with?
Could be because you wanted a fast response and sending a sea carrier was
to slow.
Or your operations are still far enough inland, that some of the carried
aircrafts don't have enough reach for sea to mission and having some range
to spare for unexpected dogfights. Assuming there is such a distance,
where moving the carrier to the sea does not take prohibitivly long.
Or your missions are very time critical and having the carrier closer
makes a difference. Could be especially true if you drop commandos by
helicopter, rather then bombs by plane.
