The airbike was for the the Earth team. I'm assuming approximately four explorers (just the right size for a roleplaying party, they don't HAVE to include a cute astrophysicist and a token alien ...) going through a narrow gate (it doesn't have to be circular) to mostly earthlike worlds. They got plenty of TL8 and very limited amounts of TL11. So far they have - a TL8 modular tracked amphibian (finished) - a TL8 modular airship (finished) - a TL11 airbike (two different drafts, one will win ...) - a small TL11 starship for outdoor gates (draft) The opposition will be Evil Overlords and Ladies (so the players have a reason to fight them) with limited amounts of TL11 technology. I'm thinking about - a small aerospace fighter for outdoor gates (concept) - a small VIP transport/raider starship (concept) - a guard ship to hunt those pesky humans (concept) So it would only be fair if the EOs get a little flyer, too. It feels wrong to use reactionless thrusters for lift and not for propulsion, so human or animal traction is right out. That segway concept could work. Think of the iconic Vargr grav platform from Traveller. Or I give the Evil Overlords TL12 with contragrav. The poor humans don't have actual ancient technology, then, just imperfectly reverse-engineered copies. Their edge is that they'll start mass-producing the stuff any day now, once the bugs are ironed out, while the EOs have hand-crafted relics. The problem, TL12 patrol craft should take TL11 intruders apart. Back to TL11 for everybody? Upgrade everybody to TL12? Then I could have contragrav generators for lift. Are there 3E rules for towing aircraft with ground vehicles?
