While technically he is a drone operator, there are large differences to
drone operations as discussed in this thread (at least how i understood
it).
The original mission of the drone is diplomacy and espionage not combat.
The drone is not replaceable and he gets great personal attachment to it.
The actual villians are thoose, who supplied the drone and keep his body.
So overall, combat operation with a replaceable drone, that would be what
this thread discussed, does not really play a part in the movie.
