Brandon replied to me:
In 3E, the bonus for humanoid mecha with neural interfaces is +1 on top
of the usual +4 for neural interfaces. That is less than the penalty for
multitasking, so a backseater with only the +4 should get better results
e.g. for sensor ops rolls.

A TL8+ computer should be sufficient for allowing one crewman to focus on
operating the maneuver controls and weapons while the computer handles sensors,
comms and other, only alerting the pilot when required.

In the 3E rules, it would take either a robot brain or a neural net to run electronics operations software. A C4 neural net gets IQ 8 and 4 skill points, quadrupled for the equivalent of eidetic memory, for skill 15. C4 tactics would be skill 14. Higher complexity at higher TL will get astronomical skill levels.

This may indicate that TL8+ computers are sufficient to handle the dities of a
second crewman in a fighter.

It feels wrong that a computer would be better than a human in the "planning" roles like sensor operation and tactics and worse than a human at "executing" roles like piloting and gunner.

Onno
