Brandon replied to me:
Why would a humanoid mecha need less crew?
They are, by tradition, just treated as very large battlesuits.
All other things being equal, would a two-seater be superior to a
one-seater?
In 3E, the bonus for humanoid mecha with neural interfaces is +1 on top
of the usual +4 for neural interfaces. That is less than the penalty for
multitasking, so a backseater with only the +4 should get better results
e.g. for sensor ops rolls.
What happens when a driver operates the legs of a mecha and a gunner
operates the arms with the weapons? As a GM I wouldn't give the humanoid
+1 unless all limbs are controlled by the operator.
Hmm, I'm not sure if there are any new two-seat fighters (as opposed to new
models of old fighters).
The F-22B was cancelled. The KAI T-50 is based on a trainer. The MiG-35D
is a two-seat variant of a one-seat fighter. The two-seat Typhoon is
only a trainer.
