Another way to test this would be to connect the Booksense to the computer without the SD card. Once connected, insert the SD card and see if the computer will find it.

Agreed that the SD card not showing up as a removable drive while the card is inserted into the BookSense is odd to be sure. The good thing is that Karly was able to get it upgraded via a card reader. My curiosity is more on the nature of whether this is specific to her computer or to her BookSense. the only way to be sure is for Karly to insert her SD card in the BookSense, turn it on, and connect it to another PC. If the same thing happens where only the flashdisk drive is there, then it's specific to her BookSense and we need to investigate further. If however the other computer sees both drives then it's a computer issue.

Many thanks.

What version of Windows are you using?
That's weird about the missing drive. I run on xp pro, and I did the entire upgrade without using a separate card reader (which is good as I don't have
a card reader -- another thing to buy...)
Glad you got it upgraded.

Hi,

Well, my sister came over tonight and helped me try and find the extra drive
with the card and there was absolutely no extra drive anywhere. We then
went and I bought a card reader and it worked perfectly with the card
reader. I put the firmware file on the card and then put the card into the
BookSense and it upgraded perfectly without any problems.

I remember when I first received my BookSense I tried plugging it into the computer itself and it wouldn't work at first without the SD card inside. I was instructed that initially to get the BookSense to work at first you need to put the SD card inside to initialize. I put the card inside, still not realizing it was supposed to show me another drive, and the BookSense worked just fine initializing, so I'm really not sure how that happened. Of course after the initial connection I could use my BookSense XT without the card.

I am a little confused still why without a card reader the SD card doesn't
show up, but it seems that my problem is solved.

Thanks everyone for all your suggestions!

Karly

Hello. Just so you know, the drive letters on one computer are usually
different than the drive letters on another. As others have said, look
for removable drive since most SD cards do not have a label. You can of
course give it a label. I believe that section 3 of the BookSense manual
may talk about this, or you could search for the word label to find
out. If you are not seeing two new drive letters when connecting your
BookSense XT to the computer with an SD card in it, then perhaps you
need to arrow to the right in case you are using tile view on your
computer.

Hopefully you can get the upgrade done.

Many thanks.

Hi All,

I have a couple questions. I am starting the process of upgrading the
firmware. My first question is, when I down load it and then have to
find
the drive of the sd card, is it the same drive as the booksense...drive
e?
When I plug in my booksense with or without the sd card in it since I
have
the XT I just see that it is drive e? Is this correct? I don't see an
extra drive when the sd card is connected, is this normal?

Also, it says that after I disconnect the booksense I need to plug it
into
the AC adapter and do the actual upgrade. Now, do I just disconnect the
SD
card after the firmware is completely upgraded?

Thanks for all your help.

Karly
