I just put an addendum on my explanation of the Taskkill utility. I use it on XP Media Center and it works fine. Media Center is a variation on XP Pro. So, whether this works on XP Home or the full Pro version, I have no idea.
As always, try things at your own risk. Curtis and others, I put up a zip file on my web site with the taskkill.exe utility and the batch file to use it to stop the Window-Eyes processes when things get scrambled. I put the instructions on the web site. www.turner42.com Richard _____ From: Curtis Delzer [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Sunday, August 17, 2008 9:50 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: unfortunately! Problem is if you don't have the "taskkill" utility, says "is not recognized as an external or internal command." Curtis Delzer. When errors stop Window-Eyes from speaking, hit the hot key you assigned to this batch file and Window-Eyes will completely unload. Then, launch it again with the standard Window-Eyes hot key and all should be fine. It only takes a few seconds this way. Copy the lines below to your text editor: @echo off cd\windows\system32 rem close window-eyes and all its parts rem works with windows xp home and professional taskkill.exe /im wineyes.exe /f taskkill.exe /im bdisplay.exe /f exit Copy only the lines above this one. It doesn't matter how how difficult or long it takes to resolve this. As a matter of fact this has been going on for along time now. It would happen from time to time in window-eyes 6.1 and of course there are work arounds using paid and free screen readers to inspect what is going on. This works sometimes, but not all the time, however it's not reliable all the time. Therefore it doesn't matter how much time it takes to be resolved for 7.0 because it's been going on in prior versions of window-eyes. The bottom line is if gw-micro's claim that window-eyes screen reader is the most rock solid screen reader, please let's do whatever we can to get it solved for 7.0.
