I certainly don't consider myself a power user of the more sophisticated
facets of any screen reader, but I waited for the cd to arrive before
loading the new Window-Eyes. I did not un-install 6.1, and I admit
there are applications I haven't tried, but for my Internet and e-mail
surfing I have had no problem at all with my computer. The few things I
find a problem are partly of my own making and I know it, because I have
not wanted to install an external keypad and so haven't done a lot of
complicated cursor routing, etc. This is my problem and no one else's
so I'm not about to say that there's anything wrong with Window-Eyes.
I'm using Firefox for most of my web browsing and Microsoft Outlook for
e-mail. I have loaded a couple of scripts, and still find I have a
problem coming out of hibernation. I don't want to load anything at
startup so this, again, may be my issue and not the fault of Window-Eyes
as it currently operates. I am still using Dec ACcess32, as I really
like that synth and decided not to test a new Eloquence. Again, my
choice, my issue.

All this is to say that for what I'm doing and how I use it, I have had
no trouble with the new Window-Eyes.

I was a little hesitant to upgrade after a mysterious issue experienced
by Dave on his old computer, one we never resolved. Something clobbered
his JAWS installation, and since the first Window-Eyes beta was the last
application installed prior to the problem we suspected there had been a
conflict of some kind. A System restore took care of the issue and Dave
waited till the new full version came out. He received his disk
Saturday and has yet to install it, but I'm sure he will soon, and he
has no fear to do so.

Each computer is different, and even though we have been told over and
over that it's just numbers, most of us think sometimes these machines
have minds of their own. One person may rave about a piece of hardware
or software that is someone else's nightmare.

Much as we'd like, there aren't any guarantees here, like most of life.

Having said all this, I'd would suggest those people who are worried sit
down and relax for a while, ask for any help they may need, then think
good thoughts, back up their original Window-Eyes settings, or at least
save them when prompted to do so during installation. Then go for the
upgrade. You can be sure that the Staff of GW-Micro and the
knowledgeable members of this list will be very willing to help if there
is a problem. Chances are there will be no problem, or maybe only a
minor glitch that can be easily fixed.

Just my thoughts.

Pam
