I am not a developer or programmer, but I would have to believe that not
only are we talking about a major rewrite, but, before that can be done,
does it not also require substantial learning and study, either formally
or informally, to master required skills. Hence, keeping up with what
needs to be kept up with, to me at least, would seem a major undertaking
in and of itself requiring many many hours -- and perhaps more hours than
anyone would want to admit. How this skill mastering is accomplished at
the same time as program developing, both moving targets, seems an
overwhelming dilemma. I could easily see how, even the most competent
programmer, could have difficulties doing this given their other
responsibilities. This would seem even more a challenge in a small firm
as GwMicro than at say a MSFT or HPQ where hundreds, or perhaps thousands,
of individuals
stand ready to do a job and can balance their time between work and
preparing for work and educating themselves.
That was what I meant by "skills" as unless you have the time for that
development, you will inevitably and unavoidably fall behind.

Somehow, I am guessing that guys like Mike and Aaron, when learning time
is considered, work far beyond the traditional 40-hour work week.
