I must agree that this did not happen as often with previous window-eyes versions, and mind locks up when I am tabbing through windows or surfing the net as while.

Aaron, I can say that this occurs most often for me when I am playing or downloading music, or making playlists with RealPlayer and Rhapsody. It can also happen while I am just surfing the internet or when Alt+Tabbing between open windows. Thus, files and programs are being opened and closed. When my computer boots, it has in the Sys Tray: Nokia PC Suite, Sunbelt Personal Firewall, Spybot SD, Nod32, Winzip Quick Pick, Windows Live Messenger, Diskmagik, Registry First-Aid, Light Scribe Control Pannel, HP Digital Imaging Monitor, Not Connected, NVIDIA Settings, Volume, and Safely Remove Hardware. I receive lock-ups even after I have removed the following mannually: Sunbelt Personal Firewall, Spybot SD, Nod32, Windows Live Messenger, Nokia PC Suite, Winzip Quick Pick, Diskmagik, Registry First Aid, and Light Scribe Control Panel. I have tried leaving Sunbelt Personal Firewall and Nod32 loaded because I don't want to be unprotected. With programs removed, the computer works normally for alittle longer but still eventually slows down and locks up. I am talking about 3 or 4 lock-ups a day, rather than 2 or 3 times a week previously. I am using Sapi Synthesizer.. I have Window-Eyes 7.11, Windows XP Service Pack 3, and 2 gigs of RAM. I have a Tripple Talk USB and a Canon Printer. These lock-ups occur whether programs such as MS Word and Outlook Express are running or not. Except for Sunbelt Personal Firewall, I believe, I have the latest versions of my programs. I have been keeping my Windows updates current. I have not had these problems with previous versions of Window-Eyes. Are more than 2 gigs of RAM needed to play and download music and surf the internet? It may not be the total amount of memory, but memory usage. I know that video editing may well require more, but I don't do that. I could try different synthesizers. Can MSConfig be run without sighted assistance and how? How do I determine virtual memory status? Sorry for the long read, but I hope it helps. ----- Original Message ----- From: "david pearson" <[email protected]>

I can tell you that most of the time when Window Eyes locks up for
me, is when I put something on the clip board.

It would be helpful if we were able to duplicate any of these lock ups. But
on up to seven different machines, varying in operating systems and
hardware, we're not experiencing any kind of lock ups. So you need to do
some investigation, including the following:

* Make sure all Microsoft updates have been installed
* Make sure all running software is at the latest version
* Turn off scripting
* Try switching synthesizers
* Disable Braille (if it's enabled)
* Go through MSCONFIG, and disable every application from starting
automatically, even Window-Eyes
* Ensure that you have the appropriate amount of disk space for virtual
memory
* Try defragging your drives
* Unplug any unused USB peripherals

See if doing any of those things makes any difference.

Okay I don't know about anyone else but I am getting really sick of
these lock ups that window-eyes is performing. What is going on. I am trying
to get ready to go into finals and I can't even download a study guide
without window-eyes locking up. I am not liking this new window-eyes 7.11. I
hope GW-Micro is doing something about this because I need to get things
done quickly. It is already hard for us to do something that a person with cite can and we do not need it to be harder because our technology that is suppose to help is making it worse. Come on GW-Micro don't slack on us now.
