People who don't even know what a screen reader is face this issue.
Even without running Window-Eyes, I've lost sound before. So this as
nothing to do with AT, but rather Windows (specifically Win7) in
general. Do a Google search for Windows 7 No Sound, and you'll get back
about 78,100,000 results.

Well I have the same sound card and haven't experienced this yet. Is
this just Window-Eyes only or do people with other screen readers face
the same issue?

This is definitely a windows or driver problem. I have the same
issue with realtech high definition audio on win7 32-bit. I never
had any trouble with vista either. I dug out my dec express and just
switch to it when my sound goes away. The trouble with this problem
is that it doesn't happen often enough to keep ms tech support
interested.

I have Windows 7 with a creative x-fi card and I have experienced
the loss
of sound problem on a number of occasions. There does not seem to
be any
pattern to this. I am fortunate enough to have a hardware synthesizer
however, so when this does happen I don't lose speech but I imagine
it would
be quite frustrating if I was depending on my soundcard to hear
Window-Eyes.
Before I upgraded to Windows 7 I was running vista on this same
system with
no sound issues at all. Go figure.

On my machine I've had no sound issues. So it could be specific
sound cards.

It would appear that Windows 7 itself has a bug where all sound is
lost
thus
making it seem that WE has stopped talking. When this loss of sound
happens
you can still bring up the WE menu bar and close WE but a restart
of WE
does
not resolve the problem. The only solution I have found is a
reboot of
Windows 7.
There is a small program called microsoftfixit50131.msi to resolve
sound
issues but I have ran this program and still have had the loss of
sound.
I think GW is aware of this Windows problem and I hope they are
talking
with
Microsoft to resolve the issue.
