This is a little off topic. I'm upgrading from XP to Windows 7 on a new netbook. I've ordered a tutorial on W7. In the mean time, the start menu is just a pain.
On the start menu, I'm used to hitting the first letter of the application I want until that item is highlighted. AS Windows 7 seems to be configured, I land in an edit box. There I type in the name--or the first few letters of the name--of the application, then move to the name of the application that should match what I typed. It still seems like extra keystrokes. Are there configuration settingsthat would allow me to deal with the start menu as was done in XP? Am I missing something about how to use this new start menu? Is there a simpler way than I've described. Thanks.
