Well, I do believe this to be a WE feature.

First, it did not happen in my former screen reader, Blindows. To confirm my
idea, I just tried the following:

Open Internet Explorer, and on the address bar, press Delete, till the Editbox
is empty. The PC dings on you. Now, close down WE, and load NVDA, then ALT-TAB
back to Inteernet Explorer, and try to delete on the empty addressbar. There is
NO DING.

There is a ding, though, if you press the backspace - and this might be
according to Windows. But, also, when you many times might get a DING when
trying to move with the arrow-keys, CTRL-Arrows, and so forth; this seem to
happen quite often, if WE has somehow lost its focus. That often happens if
another software happens to pop up a message, i.e while you are typing a
message in Outlook Express. And, this silly DING comes on every time you try to
move with the navigation keys. Well, in short, find that WE does DING at you,
far more often, than Windows itself would do.

Make out of this what you want, but I do hold this to be a WE thing. Hope,
Chip, this was the test you wanted?

  Davy,

I think you said you owned multiple screen readers?

can you test out the idea that this "ding" when trying to delete from an
empty editbox is actually a windows feature? I think it is, and was hoping you
don't mind trying another screen reader to see if it still happens.

  thanks.

  Chip

Speaking of dinging, is there any way to stop Window-Eyes from triggering the
little default Ding-sound whenever you're trying to delete text from an already
empty edit box? I am a braille-only user, so I want my screenreader to make as
little noise as possible, so to speak.

  Cheers!
  Davy

    Hi Davey and Everyone,

I have noticed the same thing with Window-Eyes. This also happens to
Comma's as well. I have even noticed this action where I'll be sitting on a
letter, to delete, and the letter after that is the one deleted. This makes
editing text a real pain. I don't know why this occurs, however I'm wondering
if it is a matter of Window-Eyes loosing focus.

I've been going to write about this issue for a long time, however, I
figured folks would think I was crazy and didn't know what I was talking about,
however, since you brought it up, I know I'm not crazy. <grin> And, no one else
is crazy, either. <smile> Maybe this has been brought up before, and I've
missed it, not sure.

Another thing I want to bring up, that I think has been brought up before
is this.

Many times, when I do a control-left arrow, or control-right arrow to go
word by word through a line, and all it does is ding. I've even noticed this
when arrowing through words, to check my spelling or typo-s to correct my
mistakes. This is very annoying.

One thing I want to say is, just because all this happens, Davey, don't let
this stop you from using the loving Window-Eyes screen reader. It's excellent.
Nothing in this world is perfect. <smile>

      Hello!

I am in the middle of switching to Window-Eyes as my main screenreader,
which is also why I subscribed to some of the GW Micro mailing lists. There is
one quite strange thing, however, that is holding me back, and a quick search
through this list's archives didn't result in a solution. That's why I thought
I'd bring it up.

The problem is that when I am typing some text at a decent speed, a
sentence like "That's nice." comes out as "That's'nice." So something is
putting in an extra apostrophe. I thought that Window-Eyes couldn't be
responsible for that, but when I shut it down I don't get this extra apostrophe.

This strange behavior obviously makes using Window-Eyes a bit of a pain,
so I was hoping there would be something I am forgetting about that would
correct this issue. Any suggestions will be very much appreciated!

      Cheers!

      Davy
