Personally, You are making the argument in spades for a yearly licensing 
system rather than charging just when a "major" upgrade is released.
A screen reader, in the use of a pc, is far too important to skimp on 
paying for and I would gladly pay more if that meant seeing more 
accomplished. 
A business needs a stream of revenue to survive, and this is even more 
important today given the economy meaning perhaps reduced new sales.
Believe me, I understand the business side of the equation; but, on the 
other hand, users, as others have stated, will ultimately make choices 
based on what the marketplace offers.
With today's pcs being able to run multiple screen access packages, this 
competition is taking on a somewhat different dimension.
