Net Bat, I had a problem with a previous computer similar to what you described, but since I got so many positive responses and you explained that the problem is rare, I have disconnected my old, CRT beast of a monitor and will stick it in the back of a closet. And Brice you were correct. It was on my laptop where I came across a setting to turn off the display. Thank you all for your feedback.
