My two cents,
I have mixed feelings about this. I, like many others, was expecting
some sort of stability update to Window-Eyes. I have to admit that I was
disappointed at first. The backlash on this list took me by surprise but
I also felt that there were some valid points raised earlier in the
conversation thread.
Then, as I expected, GW support chimed in. Aaron's comment made me
rethink about this new application because there are two different teams
of developers, as has been mentioned. Okay, I thought, maybe I should
look into this a bit more because I haven't even seen the interface. I
began to think about Facebook itself and how much I don't use it because
of the inaccessibility of the mobile site. Sure, there are some things
that are easy to do like replying to comments and updating statuses, but
some of the things like chatting and attaching links to timelines are
difficult for me.
In the end, I bought the app for the current $25 price. I will have to
say though that I'm a little annoyed at the annual charge. But if that's
the way GW thinks it should be, and they need money to continue to
develop apps such as this, it's not so bad. I just did the math and it's
the same cost as a small Starbucks coffee per month. So, think that that
way, how much money do people spend on that every day? That was rhetorical.
One thing, if I may suggest, for future updates to this particular app
would be its ability to interact with LinkedIn. This is a site that I
have very little exposure to but will be using considerably in my search
for employment.
One last thing. For those of you who do not use social media, I think
the name is misleading. Sure, it is a way to be social, but it is also a
way to find jobs, create business contacts, and interact with almost
every website on the Internet. I suppose it all depends on how one uses
the technology.
Those are just my opinions and they are bound to change with use and
improvement of the application. People ust also remember, too, that the
entire Window-Eyes community is not on this mailing list. :-) That may
seem obvious and an immaterial point, but that survey went out to everybody.
Thanks for reading, Dave

Hi Chris and Everyone,
I'm wondering if someone should create a list called Whiners! Maybe
these people would just go away, and we could concentrate on the
important and positive things about Window-Eyes and this SocialEyes
product, or even the kindness and other comments, if necessary.
Maybe these whiners could put "Whining" in their subject, so those of
us who are really interested in reading the important and positive
feedback and comments, could skip those whining messages.
I mean, really! The product isn't even released yet, no one has
seenit, the tutorial was excellent, and people are complaining! If
people don't want to use it, they don't have to.
I'm not against people stating their opinion, even if it is not for
the product, but people could be kind about it.
I personaly am looking forward to SocialEyes, and I think it is going
to be a great product!
The loving folks at GW Micro work very hard, and what is wrong with a
little yearly subscription if it's something we'll use?
I didn't take the survey. I guess I forgot about it.
Just don't include the loaf of milk and the gallon of bread. <grin> lol.
I hope that GW Micro will come out with other great Apps like this one.
I'm loving Window-Eyes and I know I'll be loving SocialEyes, as well.
Keep up the excellent work, GW Micro. <smile>

Hi folks
Let me jump in here and stress one very important thing. Just
because GW releases a program like Social-eyes, does not mean they
have completely dropped or have lessened development on window-eyes.
There are 2 teams that do programming for GW Micro. One works on
window-eyes, and the other one works on stuff like GW connect,
Social-eyes and other programs. and if you don't want it, nobody is
forcing you to buy it. It is just, that, simple.

Exactly. Just the other day I was wondering when the next release of
Window-eyes would be coming out addressing many bugs and known
instability issues that myself and others have been dealing with for
some time now. Instead I'm faced with yet another GW product which I
personally will never use. I'm happy for those who want to use
Facebook, Twitter, and all the other social media sites, but is this
really a priority? There's even sites that haven't come out yet that
will probably replace Facebook in their popularity (remember MySpace?).
Anyway, my point is, when so much time goes by with out an update
to your main Window-eyes product and then you announce this
Social-eyes app, is it any wonder that people are getting upset and
frustrated?

At Tom: The reason for the complaints is that many of us had
higher expectations of GW Micro than what we have here. Simply
being silent doesn't effectively convey anything to the company; it

Window Eyes has gone up in price and down in stability and
user-friendliness. GW has done a lot of good things, but they are
slipping, and I for one, am disappointed that they focused any
effort at all into something as ridiculous as social media,
especially when accessibility is pretty good through the mobile
side of the Facebook website, rather than use that effort to
improve the Window Eyes software. And at Solomon, you're kidding,
right? A company has no obligation to meet the needs of its
customer base? What enormous rock do you have your head under?
That is precisely the business any company is in if the goal is to
try to make money. Of course that is their end goal? I'm also
very disappointed with GW that they'd go to the trouble to get
everyone all revved up about this when there's really nothing to
get all that excited about. And as to taking or leaving it, do you
not remember the uproar over the worst of the operating systems put
out by Microsoft such as Windows Millennium or Windows 8? Do you
honestly think Microsoft would have made the effort to improve on
Windows ME to get to XP if all their customers just kept their
mouths shut? Sorry, but many of you seam to think that because GW
makes software that we depend on that they are above all criticism
or reproach. Well, when I'm paying nearly $1,000 for the software
and $175 plus for each upgrade, you bet I'm within my rights to
complain when they don't deliver. The rest of you can blindly
worship at the alter if you like, but I'll have no part of it. And
trust me, when they have, and hopefully some day will, really
improve their Window Eyes software and it really is better than
what's out now, I will be one of the first to tell them how much I
appreciate it. Jon
