Hi Joe, Okay, dujb question but, if you aren't using hard returns why are you wanting to add spaces at the start of a line? I did try to do this and also can not add a blank space at the start of a line. I wrote a paragraph's worth of stuff then tried adding spaces to the start of the last line. I don't know if it's a hardware issue or just a question of margins. For example, I'm in outlook express now and typed the above and then tried to add a space at the start of one of the lines, and it wouldn't work in oe either. It seems and I very well could be wrong because technical stuff is definitely not my thing but it seems to me that spaces aren't really considered characters unless they are proceeded and followed by characters and or hard returns. So using the bsp I added 80 odd spaces to what was supposed to be the start of a line, instead they were added to the end of the previous line. This probably doesn't make much sense. Perhaps if you could explain a little what or why you need to do this we could figure it out. It's intriguing anyway. Sorry not to be of more help. Hi, Tessa, I never use a hard return in a document unless it's the start of a new paragraph. I usually proof in ASCII but as per your suggestion, I changed from ASCII to Drade 2 with the same results. I could add a space at the start of a line. Today when I started writing, I loaded my document and I could add a space with no problem. I went to any line and was able to add a space. I also found that, after I was writing for a while, it was no longer possible to add a space at the beginning of a line. I cannot account for this. It's great when I can reproduce an error, but I can't do it. Maybe this will suggest a curefor this problem. I can add a letter at the start of a line, which makes this a strange problem.
