Courtney: I had athroscopic surgery about 2 years ago for a medial meniscus
tear. I was told not to run for 4 weeks but I was given the OK to start
spinning 3- 4 days later and cycling about a week after. I don't know about
doung BSG that soon after mainly because of the climbs. The surgeon that did my
procedure was Dr William Isbell who at that time was the orthopedist for the
Carolina Hurricanes and he understood athletes mental;ity. It all depends on
how much of the meniscus they remove etc.
Hope this helps,
fernando

I did it two weeks ago playing in a mandatory volleyball tournament at
an employee appreciation event. (Very first ball served came right to
me and that's when I hurt it.) I kept thinking if I gave it a few days
it would get better but after almost two weeks with no improvement I
went to the doctor this week. Add on a week of travel and vacation
prior to that and I've already been off the bike 3 weeks total. Not
certain when I will get this done but the sooner the better. Worst
part is that I'm signed up for BSG next weekend.
Courtney,
I'm neither a doctor, nor had this injury, but a quick google search
ays you'll be down for more time than you think :-( definitely not
oing to be riding in the BSG.

I would read through the whole thing, but the last question is probably
he one that you want to read and understand:
"When can I return to sports or full duty at work?
Your return to your desired activity level will depend on the extent of damage
and the procedure performed on your knee. In general, you will be allowed to
return to sports in 4-8 weeks after surgery. You must have good motion,
trength,
and control of your knee. How quickly you return depends on several factors,
including: 1) your own rate of healing; 2) the damage found at surgery; 3) if
ou
have any complications; 4) how well you follow the post-operative instructions;
5) how hard you work in rehabilitation."
Sorry not to have more positive words for you. :-(
> Thanks,

 Courtney
