Honestly I have no idea of the issues here and had no idea that Tony was in
the hot seat on this. He obviously is passionate about having a great club.
It always seems to be the case that 2-3 members of cycling clubs do most of
the work until they burn out. Some of us just keep ticking a little longer
than others! :)

To me the Gyros Google group was a source for exchange of community
information. We have a Google rides list here in GSO that is wide open.

I would be interested to learn about the legal issues that created the need
to go "private". This does not seem to be happening in many communities, but
might it be a future trend?

Our Greensboro Velo Club just re-joined the League of American Bicyclists,
principally to obtain insurance for their organized road rides, but they
haven't been advised to exclude non members from casual not-for-fee rides.
What are we missing here?
