I looked at Vena Cava but they don't have 1/2 inch spiral boning in pre cut lengths, they only have it in rolls and I don't want to have to cut it up myself as by the time I've bought a decent pair of bolt cutters it would be just as expensive as buying from http://www.corsetmaking.com/ (they have all the pieces I need but it would cost me about $20 more than if I used 1/4 inch boning from vena cava) Hedgehog handworks has everything I want except for the long busk, for about the same price as vena cava (less than $1 difference once I convert it into Australian dollars)

Subject: Re: [h-cost] victorian corset with too short busk

Hi,

I buy my busks here.
http://www.venacavadesign.co.uk/Pages/DraftBusks.htm
They sell the very long busks.
I don't know if they are cheap but I have seen corsets where the busk
was too short and they looked ugly.
They cut a piece of an other busk and taped it together but is is very
easy to see.

Greetings,

Hi everyone,
I've almost finished making a victorian corset (1850s pattern from Corsets and Crinolines) which I'm ready to put the boning in and I was looking for sources of boning and the cheapest source I can find is hedgehog handworks, but they don't have busk long enough for my corset (their longest busk is about 2-3 inches shorter than my corset) so has anyone worked out the best way to make up for a short busk? My thought so far was to add an extra bone with a heavy duty hook & eye at either the top or the bottom, but I think I remember later 19th century corsets (1880s or 90s) with a few inches of lacing below the busk (I used a library copy of corsets and crinolines so I don't have it with me to check). If anyone has experimented with either hooks & eyes or lacing with a busk can you tell me what worked and what didn't.
thanks
Elizabeth
