I started sewing as a kind as well, don't remember how young. My birthday is Halloween, so, obviously, I was born with the costume bug. My mom would sew at the table and she taught me how to do hand stitches and work the machine. I don't have a machine these days; I do my work by hand because it always looks better and gets me in a Sewing-Zen sort of state. But I think I still have barbies with costumes on them. I vividly remember reading about Elizabethan corsets and using cardbord and masking tape to make poor barbie into the proper shape. I think my first real complete costume was a Jedi outfit. :D
