I've worked with this stuff before - the problem is the glue that sticks the 
shiny bits onto stretchy fabric. I came up with 2 solutions - neither of which 
is perfect, but they might help:

1) If you sew a piece of paper (regular printer paper) on top of the seam, the 
needle will last longer. I think it's because the paper scrapes some of the 
glue off the needle as it comes back up. After the seam is finished, just tear 
the paper off. (You'll still go though multiple needles using this method... 
Just not quite as many)

2) Remove the shiny bits from the fabric along the seam line, before sewing.
