Now is a good time to put together a plan on how this would be done,
what the actual requirements and tasks would be to pull it off, and
how to market and promote it.

Firming up the "why" and "how" while finishing up the "what" is a
smart approach ;-) While you're at it, you can take the time to
consider whether you want to pursue funding, and if so what approach
is needed to get what you want - and if not, what investments you have
to make in order to launch, and reasonable projections of overhead &
operating costs until you reach break-even. Oh yeah, how is it going
to get paid for? ;-)

I went through this with Mambo, then Joomla - the name switch
ultimately sapped our resources and energy and we all basically
fizzled out at the same time - and watched Drupal do this with Acquia.

I've been quiet with work and personal schtuff so have been totally
silent around here - but I can certainly help on the business side,
and point out the spectacular blunders of my past in the hopes you
don't have to experience them in the first-person.
