I agree this is a longer term discussion, and not a 0.6 discussion.

I also don't believe that anyone is suggesting that all links be
underlined, so let's just forget that.

I'm not sure how anyone could disagree that this would be a good and
useful thing.

This is a good idea, IMHO. There are probably other examples, but the
incoming links module does this already.
