Just anwering the question:

If any of you have the equipement, i.e., laptop with a good internet camera configured to broadcast (or to send to some other server that broadcasts), I'd be happy to have such a thing.

However, the "best" internet cam I have access to has a resulotion of 320X240 and a sample rate of a few frames per second.

As for why I haven't attended most of the last lectures (I've been to the last two I think), is overloading with work.

Looking @ haifux at years perspective (soon we'll celebrate 7 years), it seems that there are cycles for people coming. A person starts to get interested in Linux, and after 2-3 years he (or she) has other commitments. Thus, it is important to gather new people (5 per year would be sufficient). In previous years it was the Linux for Technion student lecture (As part of the w2l events), and I guess Ohad's talk would be a good source as well.

So - if the low participation continues we'll have to do something. At mot, we can always return to having only Guy as a speaker ;)

why not do the lecture thing online ?
most computer people will be far more encouraged to participate

public transportation is not fun at all ..........
i mean i would love if there was *only* public transportation and all
those stupid irritating ugly private cars were out of the streets ..but that is another matter.

Hello all,

I think it's time to talk about this: The number of participants in Haifux lectures seems to be shrinking lately. It was notable in particular in Orr's and Guy's recent lectures, which both covered highly technical issues, which have plenty of implications even if you don't deal directly with the subjects involved.

I remember far more participants in much more esoteric issues.

There has been suggestions that slides shouldn't be published on the site, because people read the slides instead of coming (!!?). Personally, I behave in the opposite way (no slides, won't come), but I believe this issue is worth a discussion.

And of course, I would suggest to discuss the reasons of what appears to be a decline of the great Haifux empire. Standing at 142 lectures (w2l and SiL not included) could it be that we've already covered it all? Are we getting settled down, old and rusty? Are we missing the fun of being underground?

Your opinions are mostly welcome. And if possible, please talk about why *you* don't show up. I believe it's more interesting than general theories about what happens.

Hag Sameah,
   Eli
