Eh, I'm using xvnkb. Freaking rock solid and fast. Works equally well on Gnome and KDE.
Bonus: You don't have to mess around with stupid scim/skim on KDE. Doesn't look nice but what the hell, it just works, and is fast, and doesn't require you press enter twice on every message you type on the IM client, and doesn't underline every freaking word you type, and doesn't prevent you from typing Vietnamese when you switch the app with Alt+TAB. I actually tried to investigate into the ibus crap and it's even more horrible than scim/skim. Pull it from CVS, the annoying power consumption bug has just been fixed - great deal for laptop users. The author actually listened to his users.
