Because xvnkb worked and it is working. What is more important for me is not how beautiful/powerful/extensible/universal/modern the design is, it's how well the implementation works. I couldn't figure that out, and it wasn't my fault: it's scim's default. Too little too late. Even so using skim on KDE is still a pain. It works out of the box with its default settings -- why the heck do I need a nice interface to configure it?
