Thanks much.

I am not so interested at the moment in FICAP type data, but with Patient
related data.

After some research it looks like the HL7 receiver / responder has been
implemented via the VistA HL7 package, but that the actual MUMPS code
defining messages to be sent / received for various processes has not been
written.

Sounds like it would be a big job to provide integration with VistA patient
data.

Any other caveats / problems / concerns re the integration issue I should be
aware of?

Subject: RE: [Hardhats-members] Integrating VISTA with other applications

Bear in mind that VistA was initially developed for internal VA use, so
integrating with practice management software hos not been an issue.
Beyond that, integrating with non-MUMPS based software (usually Oracle)
is a comparatively recent development. VistA does include its own
facility level accounting/inventory/procurement module called IFCAP
(Integrated Funds Control and Procurement) that does interface with a
centralized GL system (via nightly roll-ups). Thjere are additional
modules for accounts receivable, equipment inventory and maintenance,
etc., that are not (now) part of IFCAP. In fact, interfaces with
commercial systems supporting such things as inventory have, in fact,
been developed and are in use, but IFCAP includes its own inventory
system called the Generic Inventory Package (GIP). It supports
inventory tracking and distribution, bar code based inventory tracking,
automatic re-order points, and more. It is also integrated with the
rest of IFCAP so that appropriate funds can be budgeted and charged for
various types of items, and it provides a fair amount of flexibility in
how this is all handled.
