I'm just extremely picky on media. I want the best, and I'm willing to pay for it (within reason). When 4x -R media was first coming out, I bought a lot of the Ritek G04 and had good luck...but eventually there were so many complaints about consistency that I switched to MCC. At that point the price difference was small enough that I was willing to pay.

So it sounds like you didn't have any complaints but had heard the complaints of others. I too have had great success with Ritek G04 but have also had great success with the G05 disks as well & I've literally burned hundreds if not a thousand of them all on Pioneer drives. I've had Princo's that were readable once they were burned but no longer played in the same stand alone players a few months later but that has never happened with a Ritek disk of any kind ever since I've been burning DVDs.

The last time I listen to the complaints of others I dropped Abit & went with Asus. I wish I never had as the Asus A7V333 mobo that I got was a POS & while Asus was supposedly repairing the board the bios miraculously increased 10 revisions in the time it took to get the mombo back to me & fortunately the mombo had the latest bios installed. The raid array & the firewire have yet to work properly & the promise of 333 mhz memory bus was never implemented until rev 1 of the mombo even tho Asus promised that it would be available a bios upgrade that has yet to be released. </rant>

I've have since switched to Gigabyte mombos & have had a problem with only 1 board that was quickly replaced by the vendor. All the Gigabyte boards that I've used come with a full 3yr warranty & have worked as advertised. I'm running one of their early 939 mombos now & it has been stellar in it's performance with a AMD 64 3800+ & 2g & 2 - 74g Raptors in a Raid 0 for over a year now. While I take the word of lists such as this one & newsgroups very seriously I doubt I'll let it sway me from what experience has taught me again so to each their own.

I've only had a DVP 642 player for a short while but was thinking of burning some Ritek DL disks to try in it & I have no qualms whatsoever with my choice of brand name blank disks.
