Winterlight,
While I do support Thane's suggestions, sort of, generally speaking, "toner" is pretty much an inert object that 'should' store forever within normal limits.

Yes, the price vs. storage question is a bucket of snakes. Your gamble for sure.

"Remanufactured" toner just really means "gawd knows where it came from" all mixed back together and repackaged. Again, your gamble. And, this can be a huge gamble. Different printer makers spec different temp gradients (fuser) for their toner. It has to do with density, print speed, etc. Toners vary by many very subtle factors. "Remanufactured" toners vary by another order of magnitude.

Buy a test replacement and try it. If you get acceptable print quality, then buy yourself some storage stock! As long as you store it in a cool, dry place, it should last forever........ :)

I wouldn't purchase remanufactured toner unless the savings is more than the cost of a fuser for the machine, since it'll damage the fuser. With manufacturer toner, I had boxes on the shelf for two years and used it with no problems, but given the speed at which you can get toner now, I'm not sure I'd bother doing it again. When you get the toner low warning you usually have a couple of hundred copies left, so just order it at that point.

I am placing a order with monoprice and happened to notice that they sell their own remanufactured toner. I have a color laser that is going to need to replace toner sometime in the next 9 -18 months so I am thinking of ordering a set.. the price, as always at monoprice, is very good. A Google search shows the shelf life at around 2 years but it can much longer. Anybody have much real world experience with storing toner... how long is the shelf life?
