Ok...I have another box I'd rather use the 5770 in anyway...and the 5450
is only $35 and quiet is super important. Thanks.

Well a 5770 would definitely do it. But you'd add noise. The 8800gts has
shitty PQ and will be loud. So id pass on that. I just mentioned the 5450 to
fit with your goal of dead quiet.

Yes, 3.0GHz Core 2 Duo E6850 (from 2007). I have a Geforce 8800 GTS or
an ati Radeon 5770 that I could toss in the box. I've been doing m4v
1080p, but I'm up to trying other formats, too, right up to blu-rays in
iso format on the disc.
i'm not sure where an ati 5450 fits with these two cards I have...

What kind of 1080p? 3ghz what? Core2duo (like a 6850 etc?).
If you want containered mkv, and say youtube 1080 (flash) you probably want to
grab at least an ati 5450.. You can get them fanless.

Subject: [H] Good enough to play only HTPC?
Folks,
I have this mobo:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128396
which has hdmi out and Intel GMA X4500 on-board graphics.
I want to build a simple HTPC that just plays 1080p video over a
network, plays youtube 1080p, etc....no transcoding on this as I have
other machines which do this fine. Just playback, surfing. Either WMC or
XBMC. Any comment on which of those is better?
I have a 3.0 GHz Dual Core processor in this mobo right now (it's in WHS
box, which I'm not really using much).
Will this do the job? I want it super quiet and will buy a case which
makes it look right in my home theater. I could add a graphics card to
this box if needed, but I'd rather keep it simple. I'm hoping to do
this on the cheap with stuff I already have (except the case). I don't
need any optical in this box.
Thanks.
