Gaffer,
Not certain you are correct, but, that is my plan now going forward.
I may bin the new 'CAT6' couplers. Very disappointed. Not a big
expense; just a big disappointment.
2 new cables and I will be sorta fixed!

Bryan,
Thank you for your views. They mirror my own suspicions ATM.

On the question/quibble about inline couplers, my excuse is that I
did not wish to have coils of excess cable, and, because I did not
wish to try and build custom length cables. I am now thinking about
installing a pair cable-through-the-wall tubes. This will shorten the
cable between the 2 switches, and, re-route the cable between my 2d
bedroom and the 1st bedroom (2d switch and router). I can/will fix
the coupler issue in the dining room (where I work) with a new pair
of 20ft. cables (pebcak reading of the tape measure!).

On the whole, I agree about couplers. I'm just disappointed by the
current quality of these items. I have 3 old ones I bought back in
the CAT5 days. They are solid, well built and have never caused
problems.
Just use the couplers you have ! there isn't any difference in the
construction !

A coupler I bought from MonoPrice several years back is
labeled "CAT5E" and it works just like my older ones.
The newest CAT6 couplers are really cheesy. Bought 6. One failed
solid after 20 minutes. A second one is now badly intermittent. Hmm?
I suppose I am still confused that now in-line couplers are rated 5,
5E, and 6 now.
This I can fix. On the whole, very happy with the new CAT6 wiring!
Thanks,
Duncan
