Stupid phone, I did not mean to send that I was not done typing! Iphone and blackberry require data to be activated at all. Android phones do not and in fact work fine without even a SIM just doing wifi.
Having done my research I signed up and got an android smartphone a few months later when my contract expired. After waiting a few months so not run into trouble with amazon over my contract being changed, I called at&t and said put a block on. The rest is like I said, I was told I could not but the rep did so anyways because the form let her make the change despite policy.
