I think that most people (yourself quite possibly excluded) are completely unaware of the subconscious ways advertisers market to them, and therefore any ammunition you give them makes it that much easier for them to get to you. Now sure, they probably can only get you to buy something you don't need, but they might be able to get you to vote differently than might otherwise vote.
