I used to love teaching w/ filmstrips, though. They allow the teacher to narrate what s/he wants, at any pace, to linger over one slide, pass over another. Can't do this w/ DVD's. I don't think the content is outdated at all, for example, we have many that show scenes from the lives of historical figures; right now I'm looking at one I came across: Passover Art of the Middle Ages. I taught a class about this last year and spent many hours putting together a power point on it -- and here is all the material on a lovely color filmstrip! And no worries about the equipment shutting down, getting an error message, having to re-boot, how do I get rid of that side bar, etc. So I think it's too bad, not to mention wasteful and non-compliant with "sustainablilty"-- that all this great material is going in the trash bin.
